SECRETARY'S HELPER VERSION 3

UPGRADING TO WINDOWS 10

Initial testing has taken place on Windows 10 and no issues have arisen.

NOTE: You will be required to re-enter your Activation Code after upgrading to Windows 10.

SECRETARY'S HELPER VERSION 3

I have an Asus Vivo Smart Tab 10.1 running Windows 8.1. Secetary's Helper will not open but gives me an error message that I am below the minimum screen resolution of 800x600. I have tried both resolutions on the tablet - 1366c768 and 1024x768 - with this message.

Diagnosis:

The tablet is not providing a true display but is creating the display size in a unique manner.

Remedy:

Using Windows Explorer go to the C:/Program Files/Linshaw/ folder. Right click on the executable - SecHelp3.exe - and select the compatibility tab. Checkmark the box that says "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings"

SECRETARY'S HELPER VERSION 3

I sent out an emailing from the program but a whole bunch of names were missing. When I checked the Group setup, I found that many members who have email addresses were no longer shown as being available for the group and were missing from the group.

Check the Lodge Info (under Tools). It sounds like one of the Active statuses has been changed to inactive.

Make sure all active records show "Yes" under the "Active" heading.

SECRETARY'S HELPER VERSION 3

I upgraded from Version 3.2 to the current version and now my data is missing.

Due to changes in the way that the Windows Operating systems - Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8 -now handle data, it was necessary to place the data folder outside of the program folder.

SECRETARY'S HELPER VERSION 3

A new Secretary is taking over, what is the best way to move the program and the data to his computer?

On the current computer:

Open Secretary's Helper and create a backup of the data. This will serve as the input file for the new computer.

On the new computer:

Download and install a fresh version of Secretary's Helper.

Run Secretary's Helper, setting up/accepting the defaults AND CREATE A NEW DATABASE

Run Secretary's Helper Backup/Restore Uitlity (in Secretary's Helper, go to "File" | "Backup/Restore") and using the backup file created on the original computer, RESTORE OVER THE DUMMY DATABASE which you created.

Run Secretary's Helper and you will be ready to get working!

SECRETARY'S HELPER VERSION 3

I am trying to complete the Grand Lodge semi-annual return but the numbers don't balance. HELP!!!

Check that all the affiliations, degrees and leaving of the Lodge have been accurately recorded - are the dates correct?

You may have inadvertently moved a record to the "removed" side of the database while they still have an active status. This report is the only report which checks for data on the removed side.

These are the two most common problems with the count. If you are still unable balance, drop us a note and we will work with you on remedying your problem.

SECRETARY'S HELPER VERSION 3

I have a lot of mis-spellings of names in the records in the Removed records, is there any way of deleting them?

The simple answer is "No" but you could do an export into a csv file, which puts ALL records into a file which can be manipulated in Excel and then re-load the fixed csv file into Secretary's Helper by using import INTO A NEW DATABASE and once you are happy that all is good, then you could delete the old database.

I would NOT recommend this as the dates can go "wonky" on you very easily depending on the settings on your desktop. The Export and the Import routines were not designed for this but were designed to act as two separate entities: Import to start up a new Lodge in Secretary's Helper and Export to export the data for manipulation but not for re-import.

A different way to handle the problem, is in the Removed records, the ones you want to get rid of, prefixed the last name with a small "z". This moves them all together at the bottom of the list. When a new member joins, re-activate one of these and change all of the details to the new member. Over time, you will get rid of the bad records.

The second option is a nice clean SAFE way of achieving your end.

MASONIC TRIVIA VERSION 3

When installing the CD version of Masonic Trivia in Windows 7, the following message box is shown:

One of the "pleasures" of developing a software application is trying to be one step ahead of the Operating System manufacturer. Sometimes, you lose.

This error results from changes made in recent versions of the Windows Operating Systems and will have no impact on your enjoyment of the Masonic Trivia program nor does it cause any issues with your computer.

Click on the "IGNORE" button and proceed with the installation.
